Dangerous Music Convert-2 - Two-Channel Reference Grade Digital to Analog Converter
Overview
Description
Designed by Chris Muth and Paul Messick for reference-grade monitoring and audiophile listening, the Dangerous Music Convert-2 carries on the company's legacy of creating world class convertors. From a ground up approach and with a zero-compromise attitude for sound quality, Muth took special care in the analogue circuit design and low pass filtering of the 1 RU unit. The digital JetPLL ultra-low jitter digital clocking was refined by Paul Messick to a point of almost zero jitter. The 2 channel convertor is appropriate for tracking, mixing, and mastering with a sound signature that has been described as both true and beautiful.
The rear panel of the device features 2x XLR-3M analogue output connectors, 2x XLR-3F AES/SPDIF Inputs, 2x XLR-3M AES/SPDIF Through connectors, 1x ADAT in (Ch 1-2) connector, 1x WC input, 1x WC output, 1x optical S/PDIF input, 1x USB Type-B input, 1x RJ-45 remote connector the Monitor ST, and 1x RJ-45 Remote through connector for the Monitor ST.
Features
Dedicated Volume Control With Hard-Bypass
Allows you to bring down the output level on the convertor with the turn of a knob or bypass the control when feeding a dedicated monitor controller
Custom Metering
Uses a custom-crafted digital metre that provides peak-over-average calibrated to the input reference level with a "3-word-over" indicator to indicate when three consecutive samples have clipped
Instant Input Calibration
Offers -14, -16, and -18 dBFS industry standard reference levels that may be recalibrated with the push of a button
Automatic Sample Rate Detection
Features an "Auto" button on the front panel that will allow the convertor to automatically detect the input signal sample rate
On the Fly Input Switching
Allows you to swap between multiple digital inputs on the fly from the front input panel buttons: USB, AES/SPDIF-1, AES/SPDIF-2, ADAT, and Optical S/PDIF (TOSLINK)
USB Uplink
Route the CONVERT's AES/SPDIF-2 signal back up through the USB cable and into your DAW session for printing. Additionally, you can easily switch between monitoring the original digital signal or the Uplinked signal, which means you can add finalising plug-ins to your DAW's return track and quickly flip between the processed and unprocessed stereo signal
Monitor ST Connectivity
Allows you to connect the convertor to your Monitor ST to bring remote control of unit's digital input switching
