The Saramonic SR-PMIC3 Surround Recording Microphone is an ultra-compact and lightweight on-camera surround microphone that delivers broadcast-quality sound to DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, video cameras and audio recorders. It operates without any batteries or charging and captures the entire sonic landscape of an environment. The output cable is removable which can be useful for storage, but it also means you can connect any readily available 1/8“ (3.5mm) cable if you need more length. The output jack is on the top of the PMIC3, which saves space behind the microphone.

The PMIC3 features an array of three microphone capsules that cumulatively provide the reach of a shotgun in all directions, accompanied with a natural-sounding stereo field. Even though the internals are very complex electronically and acoustically, the microphone itself is drop-dead easy to use. You just attach it to the shoe of your camera with its built-in mount and connect the included cable. There are no power switches or buttons to worry about.

A low-cut switch on the back of the PMIC3 eliminates deep bass sounds. Footsteps sometimes produce distracting low rumble sounds that you can only hear when you watch your footage on a system with a subwoofer. This switch prevents you from recording these sounds. Low-cut will also tame the hum of air conditioner noise — so consider using it every time you shoot.

The built-in camera shoe mount on the PMIC3 features a robust shockmount that isolates the mic from vibration noises, and a metal 1/4 20 tripod thread is provided at the base for more mounting options. This microphone provides impressive sonic performance, it doesn’t consume much space in your bag, it’s durably built and ready to travel.

Please note that the PMIC3 requires “Plug-In Power” to operate. The vast majority of cameras provide it, but it is omitted on a few models.
