The DJI Phantom 1.1.1 Quadcopter with GoPro Mount is a quad-rotor RC helicopter that acts as an aerial platform for a GoPro HERO action camera. This product will appeal to a variety of potential users, from RC aircraft hobbyists seeking the ability to mount a camera so they can record their flights, to videographers and photographers looking to open up a whole new range of shooting possibilities.

Version 1.1.1 of the DJI Phantom adds a number of small upgrades over previous versions for easier set-up and more-reliable performance. New, self-tightening propeller blades make set-up easy and protect against loose propeller blades causing in-flight vibrations. New Dual Receivers in the Phantom 1.1.1 and a new transmitter with an upgraded circuit board help increase the Phantom's operating range and help protect against wireless interference. And, the new Naza-M V2 GPS autopilot software has better control and more accurate GPS stabilisation.

The Phantom can achieve a maximum horizontal flight speed of 33 ft/s and can ascend and descend at up to 20 ft/s. It comes with a 2.4GHz Transmitter (TX) that features an operational range of up to 984' line-of-sight. The controller draws power from readily available AA batteries. Please note that many Wi-Fi systems, including the Wi-Fi used on GoPro HERO cameras, also operate on 2.4GHz and may interfere with the transmitter. Take care to ensure the GoPro's Wi-Fi is turned off with operating this quadcopter.

Because of the complexity associated with multi-rotor aircraft, the Phantom relies on the Naza-M V2 autopilot system. This system uses GPS for navigation and to maintain flight stability. While fully manual operation is possible, most users, especially videographers hoping to get the smoothest possible shoots, will opt for GPS Flight Mode. GPS Mode is an autopilot system that keeps the Quadcopter stable and right side up when moving and holds it in a fixed horizontal and vertical position whenever the controls are released.

Warning: Never use the DJI Phantom Quadcopter with your GoPro camera when both devices have their Wi-Fi systems turned on. The DJI Phantom's Wi-Fi and the GoPro camera's Wi-Fi run on the same frequency, so if you use them together when both Wi-Fi systems are engaged, the DJI Phantom's transmitter will lose the ability to communicate with the DJI Phantom Quadcopter. Whenever this happens, you will not be able to tell the Phantom where to fly. This may result in loss of property or damage to your equipment.

Key Features

Streamlined Design

  • The portable, streamlined design reflects the aesthetics of its industrial design, while also allowing you to easily pack it into a backpack for transport.

Removable GoPro Camera Mount

  • Phantom has an external removable camera mount for you to mount a lightweight GoPro camera or other similar camera. It allows you to conveniently capture flight footage for exciting POV shots.

Includes Improved Transmitter

  • Phantom contains a remote controller and receiver, which help you avoid the inconvenience of purchasing such things. The only thing you need to do is to add TX batteries (4x AA dry cell). The 2.4 GHz (ISM) frequency makes the effective control distance up to 984.25' (300m) in ideal flight environments (it may be lower in certain flight environments). The frequency-hopping, anti-interference design allows multiple remote controllers to work at the same time and provides a reliable remote communications link. The 1.1.1 brings with it an upgraded transmitter with a new chip set capable of a longer transmission. Both control sticks on the new transmitter spring to the centre. The last addition is a pre-installed gimbal tilt lever. (Gimbal not included.)

Stable Performance

  • Phantom has an integrated flight dynamics system, the Naza-M V2 + GPS multi-rotor autopilot system, as well as a dedicated remote control unit and receiver. Flight parameters and functions have been set up before delivery and the proven stability of the Naza-M V2 autopilot system allows you to easily achieve optimum flight performance.

Attitude and GPS Flight Modes

  • The Phantom Quadcopter has two GPS-assisted flight modes for you to choose from. Of the two, GPS Mode is the most automatic. In GPS Mode, the Quadcopter will stop as soon as you release the controls and will stay hovering at a fixed horizontal and vertical position. This setting is the easiest to fly and is generally preferred for shooting video as the Quadcopter won't drift or be as susceptible to wind gusts.

GPS Attitude Mode, or Attitude Mode, is a more manual flying mode in which the Phantom Quadcopter does not try and maintain a fixed spatial position. When you release the controls, it will continue to drift unless friction slows it down, or you stop it. In this mode, the Quadcopter will be susceptible to wind gusts.

As with other modes that rely on Naza-M V2, to work Return to Home requires proper calibration and connection to more than four GPS satellites.

Intelligent Orientation Control (IOC)

  • IOC is designed to help make flying more intuitive. Nominally, the yaw control will allow the Phantom to rotate continuously, which can quickly become confusing if you lose track of which way is "front." Suddenly your controls can get mixed up, where pressing right causes the craft to move left and pressing forward causes it move backward. Intelligent Orientation Control prevents this from happening, keeping the "tail" of the Quadcopter pointed roughly toward the pilot at all times. To enable IOC you will need to use the Naza-M V2 Assistant Software.

Return to Home Failsafe

  • If the Phantom loses the signal from the controller for any reason, the "return to home" feature will initialise. The aircraft will ascend to 60 feet, and then make a straight-line course back to the "home position" specified during GPS calibration. Once home the Quadcopter will safely descend to the ground and power itself off. As with other modes that rely on Naza-M V2 to work, Return to Home requires proper calibration and connection to more than four GPS satellites.

Low Voltage Protection

  • Phantom offers two levels of low voltage protection, a function of the Naza-M V2 autopilot system. It prevents your multi-rotor from crashing or other harmful consequences caused by low battery voltage. In the first level of protection, the LED indicator blinks red to warn you. In the second level protection, the system will trigger the Phantom to land automatically.

Maximum Horizontal Flight Speed of 22MPH

  • The maximum horizontal flight speed of the Phantom can reach 22 miles per hour, and the maximum vertical speed is 20 feet per second. The perfect combination of speed and stability makes Phantom and excellent shooting accessory.

High-Intensity LED Indicators

  • LED status light on the tail of the Phantom Quadcopter provides you with various kinds of feedback and warnings. Colours alternate between green, amber, and red and can either be flashing or solid. These messages give you valuable information such as whether the GPS is properly calibrated,

Battery Supports 10 to 15 Minutes of Flight Time

  • Phantom includes a 3S 2200mAh lithium-polymer battery that weighs just 6 oz. It also includes a balance charger. With the all-in-one design and light airframe, the battery supports flying times of 10 to 15 minutes, which will give you a more extensive flight experience and longer recording sessions.

Naza-M V2 Assistant Software

  • After coming to grips with the basics of flying your Quadcopter, you will probably want to download and instal the free Naza-M V2 Assistant Software for Windows from the DJI website. This programme lets you to unlock the full capabilities of your aircraft, allowing you to enable Intelligent Orientation Control (IOC), perform calibration and testing of hardware and software, or if you're feeling confident, activate advanced flight modes.
