The sleek enclosure houses two 22TB 3.5" Ultrastar Enterprise Class 7200 rpm hard drives. These drives come preformatted for macOS APFS but can be reformatted for Windows compatibility if needed. Designed to handle massive file backups, the drives are preconfigured in RAID 1 mode. This means that your content is mirrored across both drives, providing a backup in case one drive fails. However, keep in mind that this configuration utilizes only half of the array's capacity. The read and write speeds of the drives reach up to 260 MB/s and 250 MB/s, respectively.
If you prefer to work directly from the G-RAID Mirror, you can switch to RAID 0 mode using the hardware-based controller. This can be done by flipping the DIP switches located on the rear of the enclosure. RAID 0 mode combines both disks into a single volume and splits the data between them. As a result, you gain access to the full 44TB capacity while experiencing improved read performance of up to 510 MB/s. However, it is essential to note that changing modes will result in the erasure of data from the drives.
