The FAS-Clamp from Really Right Stuff has Arca-type compatible mounting surfaces on both the top and bottom of the clamp, and it mounts onto camera bars and rails in a parallel orientation. Mounting parallel allows the clamp to slide forward or back on the rail. The top clamp channel runs in a left to right orientation, which allows the camera to face forward for macro photography. It can also be used as a nodal slider for collared telephoto lenses.
There are two separate locking systems built into the FAS-Clamp. The side-locking knob controls the bottom clamp and locks it into position on a camera bar or multi-purpose rail. The locking-release lever opens the top clamp and it allows plates to be top-loaded quickly and easily. Locking down on a plate, the clamp has a holding power of 50 lb.
The CNC machined 6061-T6 aluminum FAS-Clamp has an anodized type II black finish. The locking-release lever is made from stainless steel, and opening and closing the locking-cam is simply done with just finger force. The low-profile lever hugs the side of the clamp in a closed position, and it is less likely to get damaged by catching on clothing or something else in the field. Additionally, there are laser-engraved scales on top and bottom for repeatable alignment.
