The B+W UV-IR Cut 486 MRC Basic Filter (39mm) has a sharp-cut off absorption to combat unwanted UV and infrared components.
It prevents color casts and blurring for digital cameras where the IR barrier in front of the image sensor still displays some residual transmittance. The 486 filter does not achieve this by absorption via coloured glass, but by interference, a number of wafer-thin partially reflecting layers with a precisely calculated thickness. The B+W 486 UV-/ IR-Cut filter is clear and colourless and does not require any increase in exposure. It can also be left on the lens permanently as a protection filter. The B+W 486 UV-/ IR-Cut filter is MRC coated.
