Description

The Behringer Wave Hybrid Wavetable Synthesizer is capable of classic 8 or 16-bit resolution wavetable synthesis plus up to 8 configurable voices, the sound of WAVE is synonymous with the sound of the 80s as artists like David Bowie, Jean Michel Jarre and Tangerine Dream, to name a few, used the original to create hits that still resonate today!

Flexible, Vibrant, Vintage Sounds

WAVE is amazing for creating lush pads, bass and even some bell- or chime-like sounds and that’s all thanks to its 8 highly configurable voices and its classic wavetables with 64 waves each, complemented by and additional 64 fixed sub-oscillator waveforms for added depth. Want to change the characteristics of a wavetable? The 2 ADSR envelopes allow you to sculpt your wavetable just the way you want it. There’s also a dedicated sub-oscillator position control for some extra nuance. And if you wanted to get even more sounds out of WAVE, additional user wavetables and transients can be easily imported via the SynthTribe app, available on both macOS and Windows.

WAVE’s 49 full-size keys, offer the perfect balance between expressiveness and playability. Aftertouch and velocity sensitivity, allow you to shape and modulate your sounds depending on how hard or soft you play.

An archaic user interface and solidly 5/10 keybed (with aftertouch) conceal one of the grittiest, gnarliest sounding synth engines I've ever heard. This as a clone of the 80's PPG Wave is a unique sonic addition like no other.

tl;dr - sounds brilliant, tough to program. The Behringer Wave does a great job of recreating the distinctive sound of the 1980s PPG keyboards. It does those synth bells and vocal formants familiar from Depeche Mode very well, and at this price point, it's amazing value: its nearest competitors from Waldorf and Groove Synthesis currently (Oct 2025) cost nearly three times as much. I personally can't give it five stars, though, because it also does a great job of recreating the awful 1980s user interface. All those 4 letter acronyms and menu diving make it tricky to figure out how to build up patches from scratch.
