Description

A powerful yet compact mirrorless system made for rising creators, the Nikon Z50 II Mirrorless Camera combines a 20.9MP APS-C CMOS sensor and an interchangeable lens mount with a host of flagship features and compatibility with the entire NIKKOR Z lens lineup to elevate your content beyond the smartphone.

20.9MP DX-Format CMOS Sensor & EXPEED 7 Image Processor

The DX-format 20.9MP CMOS sensor is paired with the same EXPEED 7 image-processing engine found in its flagship full-frame counterparts to provide a versatile mix of high sensitivity, nuanced image quality, fast AI-powered autofocus, and full-resolution continuous shooting up to 30 fps. At native settings, a sensitivity range from ISO 100-51200 allows you to work in a broad variety of lighting conditions and can be expanded up to ISO 204800 for extreme low-light situations. The combination of resolution and sensor size also contributes to clean image quality, smooth color transitions, and reduced noise throughout the sensitivity range.

Nikon's Most Advanced Autofocus

Using inherited algorithms and deep-learning technology from the Z9, including sophisticated Subject Detection for nine different subject types, the Z50 II can recognize a wide variety of subjects, ranging from humans and animals to airplanes and bicycles. The popular dedicated Bird Detection mode is also included. When working in Auto-Area AF, these subjects can be automatically detected, focused on, and tracked to maintain sharp focus as they move across the frame.

Eye-Detection AF has been specifically refined for improved accuracy and more precise recognition of eyes in the scene, and it can also be used together with custom Wide-Area AF for subjects of different shapes and sizes.

Pre-Release Capture

The EXPEED 7 processor also enables Pre-Release Capture, a feature that helps make decisive-moment shots easier by recording frames in a burst for up to a second before the shutter is fully released. When this feature is activated, burst shooting begins when the shutter is half-pressed, and the buffer retains those frames once the shutter is fully pressed.

UHD 4K Video Recording

Capable of recording more than just stills, the Z50 II also improves on video capture, now supporting UHD 4K recording up to 60 fps and Full HD recording up to 120 fps, along with a Product Review mode, recording time limits up to two hours, a video self-timer feature, built-in electronic Vibration Reduction, and the ability to save movie files to in-camera memory cards or an optional external recorder via HDMI output. In-camera time-lapse shooting is also possible, with the ability to produce a finished UHD 4K video file directly from the camera.

A first for Nikon, the Z50 II is UAC and UAV compliant for live web streaming. Additionally, you can now record 10-bit video internally with Nikon's N-Log LUT and use four new RED LUTs as well.

Color Control for Creators

Nikon has added a Picture Control button on top of the Z50 II to make its 31 built-in presets accessible even in Auto mode. The color presets can now be overlaid on the rear LCD, letting you visualize color shifts as you create. Creator Recipes made by fellow Nikon shooters are available through Nikon Imaging Cloud and can be downloaded and integrated alongside the presets. In addition, Nikon provides a one-year subscription to its Cloud Picture Controls software, allowing you to use your own presets with professional editing tools.

Body Design and Connectivity

A large 8.1 cm LCD touchscreen is available for bright, clear, and vivid image playback and live view shooting. The screen has a 180° flip-out articulating design that benefits front-facing selfie capture and offers more intuitive operation, navigation, and settings control. The upgraded touchscreen now features the Touch FN option, which allows you to select the focus point with your fingertips.

The improved electronic viewfinder has been redesigned for increased comfort during eye-level viewing. Using NIKKOR optics to ensure a sharp, clear image, it is now twice as bright as its predecessor.

A built-in flash and a hot shoe allow you to add extra light in dim scenes, with a dedicated Night Portrait mode that optimizes balanced exposure using both available and supplemental light.

A headphone jack has been added, doubling as a terminal for Nikon's newly released optional MC-DC3 Remote Release Cord, and the USB-C terminal supports both camera charging and USB power delivery. The camera also retains the microphone and HDMI ports of its predecessor.

Built-in SnapBridge connectivity enables seamless transfer of low-resolution images as well as remote shooting capabilities. BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) and Wi-Fi enable communication between the camera and a smart device, and the mobile device can remotely trigger the shutter while displaying a live view image from the camera for shooting from a distance.

The included EN-EL25a rechargeable lithium-ion battery extends camera battery life, and in-camera charging is also supported.

A single SD memory card slot supports the UHS-II protocol for quickly storing photo and video files.

Nikon NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR Lens (Black)

Compact and versatile, the Nikon NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR is a 24-75mm-equivalent zoom designed for DX-format Z-mount mirrorless cameras. Covering a wide-angle to portrait-length zoom range, this lens is well suited to everyday shooting situations. Its optical design incorporates aspherical and extra-low dispersion elements, which help reduce a variety of aberrations for sharper, clearer image quality throughout the zoom range. A Super Integrated Coating has also been applied to minimize ghosting and flare for increased contrast and color accuracy in bright and backlit conditions.

The lens's flexible focal length range is complemented by Vibration Reduction image stabilization, which minimizes the appearance of camera shake by up to 4.5 stops for sharper handheld shooting. A stepping motor provides quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance, along with full-time manual focus override to suit both stills and video applications. A programmable control ring can also be set for intuitive adjustment of a variety of camera and exposure settings.

Lens Features
  • Standard zoom is designed for DX-format Nikon Z-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 24-75mm equivalent focal length range.
  • One extra-low dispersion element reduces color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy.
  • Four aspherical elements minimize spherical aberrations and distortion throughout the zoom range for greater sharpness and accurate rendering.
  • Super Integrated Coating suppresses flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.
  • Stepping motor delivers impressively smooth, quiet, and fast autofocus performance that is well suited to both stills and video applications. Full-time manual focus override is also possible, and an internal focusing design is used, where only the internal lens groups move during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and promote faster focusing speeds.
  • Vibration Reduction image stabilization minimizes the appearance of camera shake by up to 4.5 stops for sharper handheld shooting.
  • Programmable Control Ring is, by default, set to adjust manual focus but can also be used to control aperture or exposure compensation.
  • Specialized electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater exposure control stability, which is especially beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting rates.
  • Rounded seven-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out-of-focus quality that benefits shallow depth of field techniques.
