The GH7 showcases a redesigned sensor that outperforms previous models in the GH Series. The new silicone and software contribute to an improved 13+ stops of dynamic range boost, despite the reduced cell size resulting from the increased number of pixels on the Micro Four Thirds sensor. The camera supports internal recording of 5.7K Apple ProRes 422 HQ and ProRes RAW HQ using a CFexpress Type B card, while the SD slot allows for capture of up to 10-bit 4K120p footage. With high bitrates and unlimited recording time, the GH7 sets itself apart from its predecessors.

In order to maximize sharpness, the GH7 omits a low-pass filter and uses intelligent detail processing from its updated Venus engine to eliminate moiré. Additionally, it incorporates next-generation image stabilization technology, which combines eight distinct images into a single 100MP image without the need for a tripod.

The Venus Engine of the GH7 boasts twice the power of previous generations, enabling burst shooting at 75 fps or variable frame rate (VFR) slow motion video footage of up to 240 fps. The fast sensor readout of the Venus Engine minimizes rolling shutter distortion, keeping vertical lines intact when shooting from a moving vehicle or capturing slow motion footage of fast-moving subjects.

Lens (MFT) is capable of smooth, silent operation to work with the camera’s high-speed, high-precision contrast AF system with the sensor drive at a maximum 240 fps. It also excels in video recording performance with a mechanism that suppresses focus breathing, which was a fatal problem of all interchangeable lenses designed for still image photography. This mechanism and the micro-step aperture control for smooth exposure change achieve professional quality video recording. Combining with the camera’s Body I.S. and the lens’ O.I.S., Dual I.S. 2 provides effective hand-shake correction.
