Sigma’s FF High Speed Prime Lenses are crafted to marry the renowned optical and mechanical quality of Sigma’s Global Vision still lenses with the unique needs of cinema production. The Sigma 28mm T1.5 FF High-Speed Prime (Canon EF) is one of the wider options in the series and is designed to cover full-frame sensors, supporting resolutions up to 6-8K with a fast T1.5 aperture, all within a compact and relatively lightweight body. Alongside Canon EF, these primes are also available in Sony E and PL mounts. Consistency is a key feature: with a standard 95mm front diameter and similar dimensions throughout the lineup, it’s easy and efficient to swap and mount accessories like matte boxes, follow focuses, and lens control motors across lenses.
Optical Performance and Image Quality
The lens is built with a 9-bladed iris which delivers smooth, attractive out-of-focus bokeh, while internal design reduces ghosting and flaring for cleaner images. All lenses in this series exhibit standardised colour reproduction, making colour correction between shots and lenses seamless.
Cine-Friendly Features
Every lens in the range incorporates consistent lens gear positions and offers 180° focus barrel rotation, catering to precise manual focus control. The lenses include a clickless iris with linear markings for smooth, quiet aperture adjustments, dampeners on each gear ring to ensure silent operation, and industry-standard 0.8 module gear pitch for compatibility with professional accessories. Durability is enhanced by engraved markings, with select ones painted in luminous paint for easy monitoring in low-light conditions.
Build Quality and Adaptability
Constructed with a robust, dust- and water-resistant metal body, each lens is equipped with a support foot to reduce stress on the camera’s mount. For users needing to switch mounts, the Canon EF and Sony E versions can be converted between these formats at authorized Sigma service centres (conversion is not available for PL mounts), adding flexibility to your workflow.
