The Sonnet SF3 Series RED MINI-MAG Card Reader with Thunderbolt 3 offers a convenient solution for offloading RED MINI-MAG media cards. With the ability to offload two cards simultaneously through a single Thunderbolt 3 port, the reader boasts an impressive ingest speed of up to 1060 Mb/s from each card. Featuring two 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 ports, the reader also supports daisy-chaining of up to five additional Thunderbolt devices or a total of three RED MINI-MAG Card Readers. Its rugged aluminium and stackable design allows for the seamless daisy-chaining of three units, allowing for the offloading of six cards simultaneously using just one Thunderbolt 3 cable.
This dual card reader is RED-approved and presents an efficient solution for dealing with the ever-increasing capture resolutions and file sizes. Its portable and durable design makes it suitable for both studio and on-location use, enabling easy offloading to any Mac, Windows, or Linux computer with Thunderbolt 3 support. Additionally, two units can be mounted side by side in a 1 RU rack using dedicated threaded mounting points on the bottom of each reader. For users with older Macs, the Thunderbolt 3 connections are backward-compatible with Thunderbolt 2 and Thunderbolt, provided an optional Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter is used.
The RED MINI-MAG Card Reader also supports 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 2, allowing for connectivity with USB devices through the second Thunderbolt port via the appropriate cable or adapter (sold separately). Furthermore, the Card Reader offers full support for connecting 4K and 5K 60 Hz displays. While one 4K monitor can be directly connected, two 4K monitors require either a 4K monitor with multi-stream transport support (DisplayPort out) or a Thunderbolt 3 to Dual DisplayPort adapter. For a 5K monitor, a Thunderbolt 3 to Dual DisplayPort adapter is required. The Card Reader provides 15W of power to bus-powered Thunderbolt 3 peripherals, such as the SF3 Series CFast 2.0 Pro Card Reader, to accommodate devices that require extra power.
